I'm having a hard time digesting that the wedding is just two months away now! We've been keeping busy over December and January - sending out invitations, ordering our cake, getting outfitted, and best of all, planning our honeymoon. I admit, we've got a bit swept up in some of the traditional peripherals for most weddings, like the honeymoon.
I wasn't even really thinking about it much at the beginning. Then, the more I started planning for the actual wedding, the more appealing it became to take a few days after the wedding to unwind. My original idea was to head north to the Olympic Peninsula or British Columbia.
But, thankfully, Jake had a different vision. He wanted to go somewhere warm. (A real vacation). Although initally I was put off by the idea of flying somewhere, the more I started looking into it, the more excited I was by the idea. We started researching Central America, thinking Guatamala or Belize would be exciting escapes and put us near Mayan Ruins (a fascination for both Jake and me). Unfortunately, flying there is a bit pricey. Then Jake remembered that our lovely (and nearly expecting!!) friends, Nate and Penelope, had taken a trip to a town called Tulum, south of Cancun in Mexico. We instantly remembered just how deliriously happy they were upon returning, so we had to investigate.
It didn't take long to see Tulum had pretty much exactly what we wanted. Eschewing all-inclusive resorts, we're planning to stay in a rustic cabana on the beach for 5 days. No TV. No extreme sports. No rambunctious discos.
